What the supplier sells
A virtual server provides a defined allocation of compute, memory, disk and network transfer. An unmanaged Linux instance puts the operating system and application responsibilities with the customer or an appointed administrator.
What administration adds
Patch checks, firewall review, endpoint monitoring and documented access take time. A bounded care retainer makes that time visible. It does not include unlimited development, database tuning or emergency response simply because the compute price is small.
What still needs its own decision
Backups, extra storage, paid panel licences and excess traffic can be separate charges. Application-aware recovery is different from a filesystem image. Business mail also requires deliverability and anti-abuse operations, so a cheap server is not a credible mailbox package by itself.
Choose a region and a recovery plan
A proposed Johannesburg location and a London location have different latency and data-region implications. Verify the eligible supplier arrangement, available plan and restore method before making a commitment.
